Well it started last night, a bit lower-key than I thought. Most matches are being held across the country (yesterday, in 'San Cristobal' and 'Merida' wherever those are) with only the semis and third-place playoffs in Caracas. So excitable Brazilian fans are noticeable by their absence at present.
Venezuela drew 2-2 with Bolivia, much to everyone's frustration, as they were denied a clear penalty at the end. This means Venezuela are still hunting for their first win in the tournament since 1967. This is a record that would embarrass even Scotland.
I watched the game live on a big screen in Plaza Chacaito. Excitable crowd, very excitable Latin commentator, but a bit sparse considering this is the host nation. I guess it's still a baseball country.
